As the year comes to a close, watch brands jumpstart 2023 with their more romantic Valentine’s Day proposals. Right on time, Breguet unveils the 28-piece Classique Phase de Lune 9085, a dainty 30mm white gold model adorned with a white mother-of-pearl dial, rubies and a diamond-set case. Still a quintessential Breguet creation, the watch comes with the brand’s new interchangeable strap system.
Renowned for its pure, refined lines, the Classique collection introduced its first Phase de Lune model in 2016, with ref. 9088. The latest Valentine’s Day model is housed in a 30mm 18k white gold case with a thickness of 9.85mm and has 66 brilliant-cut diamonds set on the bezel and lugs. Displaying its heritage, the white gold caseband is decorated with the classic fluting of Breguet watches that comprises one of the ‘unmistakable signs’ of Breguet’s watches.
Engine-turned dials are another signature Breguet trait. Renowned for its natural iridescence, mother-of-pearl is also notoriously brittle and delicate to work. Using historical rose lathes, Breguet’s craftsmen engraved the dial’s central part with a refined Clous de Paris guilloché pattern. An oval-shaped recessed cartouche at noon bears Breguet’s signature and the unique production number assigned to the watch. A cut-out area in the lower half of the dial reveals the moon phase counter with its hand-hammered white gold moon surrounded by a midnight blue lacquered star dotted with white gold stars.
The white mother-of-pearl chapter ring is smooth with classic black Breguet Arabic numerals (odd numbers) and rubies marking the even numbers. The minutes track is picked out with black dots, and the periphery of the chapter ring, like the central perimeter, is delineated with Sauté Piqué guillochage. Naturally, the hour and minute hands are traditional open-tipped blued steel hands, a House signature, accompanied by a shorter blued steel hand for the small seconds integrated into the moon phase counter.
Powered by calibre 537L with 231 components, the rhodium-plated automatic movement has a gold rotor with a hand-engraved guilloché barleycorn pattern and Côtes de Genève motifs on the bridges. Oscillating at a frequency of 3.5Hz, the movement delivers a 45-hour power reserve.
