Carl F. Bucherer has been supporting the Manta Trust since 2013. This long-standing commitment has given birth to several special edition watches created to raise awareness of the Manta Trust and its remarkable efforts to preserve endangered manta rays and their ecosystem. As part of the Watches & Wonders 2021 collection, the Lucerne-based manufacturer unveils its fourth creation in partnership with the Manta Trust. As for previous editions – here and here – a portion of the proceeds from the sales of each model will be donated to the foundation, specifically in this instance to support the Manta Trust’s new floating research station project. Meet the Carl F. Bucherer Patravi ScubaTec Maldives.
Just like the previous Manta Trust editions, Carl F. Bucherer has updated its Patravi ScubaTec dive watch for this new special edition. This Maldives edition is presented in a 44.6mm stainless steel case, with a unidirectional rotating bezel fitted with a blue ceramic insert. The bright blue dial is textured with a wave pattern and paired with luminescent hands.
Launched in 2013, the Patravi Scubatec is fully equipped for deep dives up to 500m. The crown and caseback both screw down to ensure resistance to pressure. The latter is engraved in relief with manta rays. There is also a helium release valve on the side of the case at 8 o’clock.
The special edition watch is powered by the automatic calibre CFB 1950-1 (based on the tried-and-tested ETA-2824) displaying the hours, minutes, seconds and date. Its precision is certified by the COSC, the Swiss chronometer testing institute, while the hacking seconds allows for precise time-setting. Running at 4Hz, its power reserve is of 38 hours when fully wound.
The Carl F. Bucherer Patravi ScubaTec Maldives is worn on a blue natural rubber strap with a PET textile layer. It is secured to the wrist with a folding clasp featuring a diving extension. There is also a version with a bracelet. Like the strap, the bracelet’s diving buckle features a fine adjustment function so that it can be extended precisely to your wrist. Price to be confirmed.
