The classic Villeret has been one of the best-selling and most emblematic lines of Blancpain for years. One of the latest additions to the collection, the new Villeret Extra-Plate 6605 is very much in tune with its refined and understated style. Balancing timelessness and sense of place, this ultra-slim dress watch concentrates on the bare essentials, displaying just the hours and minutes – without a date and without a seconds hand.
The model’s slender case, with its traditional double-stepped bezel, is presented in polished stainless steel or 18k red gold. 40mm in diameter and just 7.39mm thick, it is even thinner than the current Villeret ultra-plate iterations. Water-resistance is of 30m. The dial is off-white for the red gold version and silvery-white for the stainless steel model. It features gold applied Roman numerals paired with elegant openworked leaf-shaped hands.
The Blancpain Villeret Extra-Plate is powered by the hand-wound calibre 11A4B. This new movement is an enlarged version of the in-house Blancpain 1150 – a movement that has been delivered by Blancpain/Frédéric Piguet to some of the most prestigious watch brands. 27.80mm in diameter (versus 26.20mm for the 1150), the 11A4B fills the case nicely. Its balance wheel features a silicon hairspring and oscillates at 21,600 vibrations per hour. Its two barrels coupled in series can store 95 hours of power reserve when fully wound. A practical addition for a hand-wound watch, the power reserve indicator on the back of the movement is visible through the exhibition caseback, thus preserving the purity of the dial. The movement’s decoration includes Geneva stripes, bevelling and perlage.
The Blancpain Villeret Extra Plate 6605 in red gold is worn on a brown alligator strap with a pin buckle. The steel version comes on a black alligator leather strap. A mille mailles mesh-type bracelet is also available for the stainless steel version. Price is set at CHF 9,500 in stainless steel and CHF 17,000 in gold. For more information: www.blancpain.com.
