First Look – The Corum Admiral 42 Automatic in Ceramic

One of Corum’s bold and contemporary designs, the Admiral is one of the brand’s main collections. As the name suggests, the model has a nautical inspiration: its most recognisable features are its dodecagonal bezel and the use of 12 nautical pennants as hour markers. With its slimmer silhouette, the 42mm variation has become one of the brand’s best-selling models in recent years. The Corum Admiral now comes in ceramic… and has never looked better.

The case retains the 42mm x 10.30mm dimensions and design of the existing Corum Admiral 42. The use of ceramic brings a notably different and more modern look. The material is lightweight and pleasant to the touch, making it especially comfortable to wear. From a technical perspective, we have black or white ceramic and a steel container housing the movement. The Admiral’s signature dodecagonal bezel is either in pink gold or in ceramic, depending on the version. The water-resistance rating is 5 ATM / 50 meters.

Four different versions are presented. The first two are straightforward classics with a combination of white or black ceramic and a pink gold bezel. Matching the colour of the case, the sunray dial features the nautical flag appliques. The other two variations are more unexpected. The first one comes in a full white ceramic case with splashes of colour all over the dial. The last one is a 50-piece black ceramic limited edition with a large Corum graffiti logo across the dial. Luminescent, it is hardly noticeable during the day but shines bright at night.

As with previous versions, the Corum Admiral automatic 42 beats to the rhythm of the calibre CO 395, an automatic movement based on the ETA 2895, the small second version of the tried-and-tested ETA 2892. As such, it ticks at 4 Hz with a 42-hour power reserve. It is visible via the exhibition caseback with traditional decoration and a personalised Corum rotor.

The Corum Admiral Automatic 42 comes on an integrated rubber strap matching the colour of the case. It is secured to the wrist by a steel triple-folding clasp. The price is set at CHF 18,000 for the pink gold bezel versions and CHF 14,800 for the full ceramic versions.
